reblog reblog

1. What is your project? [1 sentence]

A data analytics engine that can find news from general social chatter on Twitter, and break it down by location and categories.

2. How will your project use mobile tools and approaches? [2 sentences]

It would use mobile to disseminate news in almost real-time, uniquely for each of 100s of cities and 10s of countries.

3. Who will use it and why? [1 sentence]

Socially active 20-35 year olds who look beyond professional media being the only news source

4. Please list three ways they would learn about your project.

1. Via social media - Frrole is built off Twitter data itself

2. Via journalists as ‘champion users’ - Few journalists we have shown Frrole to find it very interesting, though a bit raw yet

3. Via Search engines - Frrole website already gets around 150,000 monthly visitors

5. What connections have you made, or will you make, with others [communities, organizations or networks] about your project? [2 sentences]

No major connections yet - we have shown Frrole to a few journalists and few technologists.

6. What part of the project have you already built? [1-2 sentences, feel free to include links]

Have built the first version of the core engine that analyzes  300+ million tweets monthly for 50+ cities and 5 countries, selecting a few thousand. Please see http://frrole.com

7. What does success for your project look like? [1-2 sentences]

At least a few million people using it as the ‘new way of news discovery’ that can look both beyond the personal friend circle or the professional media.

8. What resources do you need to succeed? [1-2 sentences]

We need a 4 member team with a sustenance budget for 8-12 months. One product owner (existing), one system architect/developer (existing), one marketer and one lead developer.

Additional details: ‘World’s first-ever truly democratized new source’ refers to Frrole allowing input to come from millions of individual users too and not just a few thousand professional media sources. Frrole algorithms then decide, without any bias, (with minimal manual oversight) what is news worthy.
