The Knight News Challenge accelerates media innovation by funding breakthrough ideas in news and information. Winners receive a share of $5 million in funding and support from Knight’s network of influential peers and advisors to help advance their ideas. The first round of 2013, which opens in February, will invite innovators from all disciplines to focus on tools for open government. In 2012, three challenge rounds, each focused on an emerging trend, drew more than 2,500 entries.
Challenge 1 - on NETWORKS: Winners were announced June 18.
Challenge 2 - on DATA: Winners were announced Sept. 20.
Challenge 3 – on MOBILE: Winners were announced Jan. 17.

It is an Android platform application by which users will be able to gain interaction of static, graphed data, trapped within printed or observable material.
This programming project will utilize on-board picture capturing and processing capabilities to provide users with a digitally transferable, and query-able file, accurately representing data contained within an image. This software will be developed utilizing a structured development model, including low coupling, high cohesion, and object oriented paradigms.
Everyone would have a purpose for this software because, from Nutritional Labels to statistical documents, and more, there exists structured numerical and textual data that could further be employed by a user if it were ordered in a digital medium.
1. I would employ the services of the Google app development community, through which many mobile applications are hosted and advertised.
2. I plan on dedicating a website for the open discussion and support of current users, while also providing advertising via social medium to prospective future users.
3. I plan to advertise this concept through all Educational channels through which I have access to associated with via my current educational pursuit.
Through the development of this software it will be connected to the existing app development community. I also plan on establishing a collection of social media organizing / advertising services, to include but not be limited to; Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.
Nothing as of yet. Currently all necessary Integrated Development Environment requirements are installed and legally available for use.
Success comes when a user can take a picture of anything graphical or textual, organized within lines, punctuation, or locality and be generated a database of information that a user can then ask individual or abstract questions about it, and be provided an accurate answer.
Deferred development time, to start after December 2012. Money is also a necessary resource for successful development.
